Active and Passive Voice

When a sentence is written, it can either be written in active voice or passive voice.
  • Active voice describes a sentence where the subject performs the action stated by the verb. For example: Tom changed the flat tire.
  • Passive voice describes a sentence where the subject is acted upon by the verb. For example: The tire was changed by Tom.

    (Sorry sir if I would do it in my own words. :D)
    Active Voice- It's construction is that the subject, the doer of the verb, is the the first word and the other subject which is in the verb is the one that the subject is doing it.

    Passive Voice-It's construction is that the subject is the one being done while the subject in the verb is the one doing the action.

    Give your own examples of active and passive voice (5 each)
    Active:
    The fishes eat the fish food.
    Ronnie bakes the cake he likes.
    The boy listens to the music.
    I watered the plants a while ago.
    Mother buys chicken for lunch.

    Passive:
    The fish food are eaten by the fishes.
    The cake he likes was baked by Ronnie.
    The music was listened by the boy.
    A while ago, the plants were watered by me.
    Chicken was bought by mother for lunch.

    Active voice describes a sentence where the subject performs the action stated by the verb.

    Examples of Active and Passive Voice:

    We are going to watch a movie tonight. (active)
    A movie is going to be watched by us tonight. (passive)

    I ran the obstacle course in record time. (active)
    The obstacle course was run by me in record time. (passive)

    The crew paved the entire stretch of highway. (active)
    The entire stretch of highway was paved by the crew. (passive)

    Mom read the novel in one day. (active)
    The novel was read by Mom in one day. (passive)

    The critic wrote a scathing review. (active)
    A scathing review was written by the critic. (passive)

  6. In active form the subject doing the action will go first then the verb next is the receiver of the action
    In passive form the subject receiving the action goes first then the verb and next is the receiver of the action

    Action form
    1)The driver drives the car.
    2)Christopher changed his clothes.
    3)Joshua cooked his dinner.
    4)Johnray read the book.
    5)Carlos answered the test.

    Passive form
    1)The chair is being carried by Vince
    2)The table was tossed by CJ
    3)The story was written by Fr. Jofer

  8. Differentiate the difference between active and passive voice.

    Active Voice - the subject comes first and it the one who is doing the verb's action then the verb follows.

    Passive Voice - if the sentence don't have direct object it passive and if there's the keywords:Be,is,are,a,was,were,has been,have been,will be,being and many more.

    Examples:

    Active:
    The dog drink the water.
    Manny cook adobo for lunch.
    Bonifer ate the meal .
    Reports discuss the news.
    Michael read the lesson.

    Passive:
    The water was drink by the dog.
    Adobo for lunch was cooked by Manny.
    The meal was eaten by Bonifer.
    The news was discussed by the reporters.
    The lesson was read by Michael.

  9. ACTIVE: The verb states that the subject does the action. There is no "by" in the sentence.

    PASSIVE: The subject of the sentence is receiving the action and the doer of the action is noncompulsory included near the end of the sentence.

    Passive: Later, Showtime will be watched by me.
    The book was read by Angelo.
    The mass was presided by Fr. Ryan.
    Mathematics is being taught by Ma'am Anna.
    The ball was shot by Odonell.

  11. In the Passive Voice the verb describes the subject.
    Ex.
    The Adobo was eaten by Piolo.
    The ball was dribbled by MJ.
    The trash was thrown by JM.
    A event was held early.
    A dead body was found inside the car.

    In Active voice the subject is describe upon the verb.
    Ex.
    Angelo shoots the ball.
    Odonell eats the adobo.
    Rafael scares the kids.
    A ball hits the girl.
    Owen loves the girl.

    Mark turned on the electric fan.
    Owen broke the glass.
    Clyde sung the Our Father.
    The workers build the school.

    Passive Voice: In the passive voice there is the word "by" in the sentence.

    Examples of Passive Voice:
    The car was being drive by Fr. Jofer.
    The electric fan was turned on by Mark.
    The glass was broken by Owen.

    Passive Voice-it has "by" the verbs comes first before subject

    Active Voice:
    Clyde broke the glass
    Pilot drives the plane
    Pedro plays basketball
    Jordan shoots the trash
    Lebron dunked the ball

    Passive Voice:
    The glass was broke by Clyde
    The plane was drive by a pilot
    Basketball is being played by Pedro
    The trash was shoot by Jordan
